Description |
Studio portrait of Peter and Anne Sophia (Nordahl) Isaksen family. Peter, or Petter, the son of Isak Jacobsen and Sara Pettersdtr Staalesdl, was born in Austad, Lyngdal, Aust-Agder, Norway, on July 15, 1870, and was baptized in that parish on July 24th of the same year. He emigrated to Garfield Township, Lac Qui Parle County, Minnesota, in 1889, and married Sophie, the daughter of Steffen Larsen and Gunhild Knudsdtr Nordahl , on April 4, 1896, at Freeland, MN. Sophie had been born on November 24, 1877, at Sælboskard, Norddalen prestegjeld, Møre og Romsdal, Norway, and baptized on December 26th of the same year.
The Isaksens came west with their family to Park City in April 1909 to homestead. After incorrectly placing their claim on railroad land, they staked a new claim near Rattlesnake Butte, south of Wheat Basin. After thirty years the Isaksens retired to Columbus where Peter died on November 18, 1953, followed by Sophie, on April 27, 1957.
